The closest thing the genre has to a definitive text. Dense, technical, occasionally infuriating — but if you’re going to own one O8 book, own this one.
Strengths

Genuinely advanced material, thorough coverage of preflop and postflop principles, the only book serious mid-stakes players need to study cover-to-cover.

Weaknesses

Reads like a textbook, written for full-ring live games, no concession to the reader's patience. Plan for multiple passes.

Excellent for beginners. Reminds me of Lee Jones’ Winning Low-Limit Hold’em — specific, prescriptive advice for the most common situations you’ll actually see.

Strengths

Well organized, strong starting-hand framework, cookie-cutter postflop guidance that will keep new players out of trouble.

Weaknesses

Light on theory, few hand examples to illustrate principles, too prescriptive for the player ready to think for themselves.

An 80-page chapter inside a much larger book. Written by Mark Gregorich, widely considered one of the best O8 cash players alive. The theory work is some of the clearest I’ve read.
Strengths

The best treatment of O8 principles and theory in any published book. Rare coverage of shorthanded play. Crisp writing throughout.

Weaknesses

Limited by being a single chapter, light on hand examples and math. You'll want it as a complement to Zee, not a replacement.

Uneven. Plenty of useful material, plenty of filler, and a desperate need for an editor. Worth reading if you’ve already exhausted better options — not before.
Strengths

Solid starting-hand coverage, good treatment of promo raises, lots of annotated personal hands. Some genuinely insightful math hidden in the noise.

Weaknesses

Disorganized to the point of frustration. Repetitive in the wrong places, sparse in the important ones. Several other authors have written scathing reviews; they're not wrong.

Improve Your Poker

Buy it for the Pot Limit Omaha sections and treat the PLO8 chapter as a bonus. There’s not much else specifically on PLO8 in print — this is one of the few options.
Strengths

One of the only published treatments of PLO8 specifically. Ciaffone is reliable elsewhere and the chapter is well written.

Weaknesses

Maybe ten pages on PLO8 total. You're not buying this for the PLO8 content alone, you're getting it as a side benefit.

Easy read, simple advice, basic coverage. The 40 pages on O8 don’t add anything you can’t find done better in Zee or G regorich.
Strengths

Approachable for new players, T.J.'s writing is always grounded in lots of live experience.

Weaknesses

Limited depth, dated framework, single chapter inside a larger book. Browse it in a bookstore before buying.
